FAQ

Why did you choose the University of Pittsburgh?

I choose Pitt because it's a huge school with tons of school spirit. Pittsburgh itself is a friendly, young city that is rapidly growing (not to forget, absolutely beautiful with tons of stuff to do). Pitt itself is ranked highly for health sciences and philosophy (which are my interests), which obviously was a huge factor in coming here. It was a really great decision for me!

What are you planning to do after your undergraduate degree?

My #1 passion in life is people, namely working alongside people and learning about them. I have a specific interest in identity, and even more directly in gender. However, I genuinely want to spend my working in sales (it's my dream) and also spend any spare time I have researching and working for non-profits (and more importantly, travel while doing it).

Is it hard to eat gluten free in college?

Yes and no. Living in a dorm and having a meal plan? Yes. It's difficult to eat healthy in a dining hall, let alone eat gluten free. Even if your cafeteria has gluten free options, it can still be difficult. I really recommend individuals with celiac disease or gluten intolerance moving off-campus and jumping off their meal plan, like I do! Learning to cook and doing so in my own apartment was the best decision I could've made!

Where do you shop?

I shop at J. Crew, Kate Spade, Vineyard Vines, L. L. Bean, Aerie, and Francesca's mostly (and probably in that order). I honestly shop online a majority of the time! Given that I am 5'3" and have hourglass/pear shape (34-24-37), sometimes clothing can be difficult. Luckily, I used to work in a prom dress store, so I have a very good idea of what will fit me and how different clothing articles will sit.

What is working at J.Crew like?

It is an absolute dream. Articles to come on my cool experiences working for them as well as some of my outfits from them!

What is Girl Up? Why did you start a Girl Up at Pitt?

Girl Up is a United Nations Foundation program aimed to assist girls in developing nations such as Malawi, India, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Uganda, and Liberia. We focus on health, safety, education, and leadership as ways of improving the lives of women abroad.

When I first joined Girl Up in high school, I became familiar with the struggles of girls and women abroad and recognized how different they were from my own. What the women in the focus countries encounter daily make my problems seem so trivial. I wanted girls abroad to have the same opportunities as I did, which is why I love Girl Up and all it stands for. I knew the club would thrive at Pitt, so I started a campus organization! I also had the honor of speaking at the Girl Up Summit in 2017 as an INSPIRE speaker.
